ACADEMY OF ART CANADA: Essential Black and White Painting Study Alongside Corresponding Essential Colour Study

Elementary Color: Introduction to Value, Hue and Chroma

Painting preliminaries are introduced early in the program. Students begin to build a bridge connecting their form-rendering skills in monochrome with the fundamental aspects of color. The difference between value, hue and chroma is made clear through practical exploration. Learning to mix color prepares the student for more advanced study involving complexion, pigment properties, palette organization and color harmony.
